iCREST

Georgia Tech and the Georgia Tech Research Institute in collaboration with the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Georgia Research Alliance and the Strategic Energy Institute are establishing the Innovation Center for Research in Energy Systems and Technologies (iCREST). Our goal is to position Georgia as the Nation’s energy technology and innovation leader and to accelerate opportunities in advanced energy materials manufacturing, education, and economic development. Key growth areas include commercialization of grid-scale energy storage systems, educating rural Georgia’s workforce to revitalize our nation’s infrastructure, and pioneering technology breakthroughs for Georgia manufacturers.

Mission and Vision
  • Quantifiable economic benefits to the region through increased R&D and manufacturing of energy storage systems, nanomaterials, and analytics.
  • Leveraging State of Georgia program support in the creation of life-cycle product design; positioning ourselves as national leaders the commercialization of innovative energy storage systems
  • Building industry ecosystem in the state of Georgia based on innovation stemming from GT and partners.
  • Developing K12 STEM initiatives from local area schools by providing real world laboratory and industry experience through internships
Building Georgia’s Energy Workforce

iCREST leverages investments in rural education and infrastructure to deliver energy-based curriculum, technical training, and career opportunities to our rural neighbors.

  • On-line and in-person apprenticeships with Georgia Tech students and personnel through CREATE-X, STEM@GTRI, TAG, CEISMC, GA Smart, Inclusive Innovation, DOE/DOD/USDA and philanthropic partners.
  • Energy assessments and regulatory compliance support to small Georgia businesses
  • Hands-on technology demonstrations and instruction at multiple “living laboratories” with industries, CREATE-X companies, USG colleagues, technical schools, and public agencies
